Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. CBT is based on the concept that your thoughts, emotions and behaviours are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and unhelpful behaviours can trap you in a vicious cycle through no fault of your own. CBT aims to help you deal with problems by looking at practical ways to break these vicious cycles and improve the way you feel. Unlike some other talking therapies CBT deals with your current problems, rather than focusing on the past.
Once we have identified your personal goals for therapy and have developed a
shared understanding about your difficulties, we can start to look at helping you
develop new skills and ways of coping with these difficulties. The aim of CBT is to give you the skills to break the hold that your difficulties have over you and allow you to live your best life.
